The starting point for all your digital camera information
Powershot Pro 1
The PowerShot Pro1 is a digital camera mainly designed to be familiar to current Canon owners, being easy enough to use for first timers and yet still providing a semiprofessional feel and feature set.
Canon has taken great advantage of its professional line of lenses, and decided to put an L quality label on the lens system, to indicate that this camera features a new lens designed specially to fulfill the high resolution requirements of an 8 megapixel CCD. If you know anything about Canon lenses, you know that the "L" lenses mean quality. The lens features ultra-low dispersion and fluorite elements, which produce sharp images with a almost no purple fringing. Also, the Pro1 features an USM (ultrasonic lens motor), which allows for precise, smooth zoom operation.
When you combine the power of this 7X optical zoom "L" lens, which has a focal range of 7.2mm to 50.8 mm (equivalent to 28-200 mm) with Canon's very reliable DiGiC image processor, the resulting image can really outstand for its quality, with good color and unsurpassed tonal balance.
Right above the lens you will find the flash (popup type), which has a wide-angle working range of 0.5 to 5.0m; and telephoto working range of 1.0 to 3.5 m at. If you are really fond of light, and this is not enough light for you, then you can plug an external flash to this camera, using the available external flash socket. Below the flash is the redeye reduction lamp.
To the upper-left of the lens you will find a surprise: a hybrid autofocus sensor. This is the first time a Canon camera features such a thing. This system allows you to speed focusing up, and in fact it results faster than simple contrast detection-based systems.
Its large 2 inch LCD monitor is a great feature too. It can flip and rotate, like in other Canon digital cameras. It features an amazing 235K pixel resolution.
The electronic view finder (EVF) is located right above the screen. This EVF is, in fact, one of the best ones available.
Storage of images is possible within memory cards. The PowerShot Pro1 is capable of using Type I and type II cards, and it is fully compatible with the FAT32 format, for cards that are larger than two gigabytes.
One noticeable feature is that this camera is one of the very few eight megapixel DC that comes with a memory card included. In this case, it’s a 64Mb High speed Compact Flash card.
The Canon PowerShot Pro1 is a very good fixed lens digital camera, providing high resolution, full manual controls, and an amazing quality of construction. It will help beginners as well as pros takes nice, sharp, colorful pictures with no hassles. Its lens has a nice 28 to 200 mm coverage range. The startup speed is really nice, and also are shutter speed and focusing speed, although an assist lamp would come in handy on low light situations. Other outstanding features are the awesome zoom ring, the backlit LCD screen and the long-lasting battery.
Maybe the less appealing characteristic of this camera
is its movie mode, which it is capable of VGA resolution but, unfortunately,
it lets you record clips only up to 30 seconds.
